ican - example of mass media using new media for the power of the people
18-Aug-04
Technical note : much of my professional experience involves how to reivent marketing to ensure that customers do not end up with higher and higher costs. Mass media is now the hi-cost component of many organisation's costings. Moreover if a company truly has a better product for its customers, in a networked connected age, customers can be a company's best word-of-net marketers. In these and other ways mass media and internet media are at risk of dumbing down each other unless the public is widely enough educated to demand the best of both types of media and transparency across the biggest media players of all types)
Whether or not you agree with the viewpoint above, I hope everyone will find an interest in asking: Are publically owned mass media making sufficient use of net media's unique strengths to empower people's concerns, especially when we look at such situations as the urgent quest for 30000 actionable projects for reducing global poverty?
ican is an example of the BBC providing internet media power to socially concerned people networks. I would love to hear views from users or other experienced people on how they see ican progressing.
