Parallel Case Study Sessions:
As KM is moving from an academic discipline into corporations and industry, there exists a large gap between theory, empirical research and what’s actually happening in most organizations. This fact gives rise to a challenge to both industry and academia – How can we better bridge the two worlds and link theory and practice in KM. This session aimed to explore and strengthen connections between KM research in practice by providing the following activities:
The Siemens Knowledge Management Journey by Dirk Ramhorst
In this Session, Dirk Ramhorst - Chief Knowledge Officer of Siemens, presented the Knowledge Management Toolbox of Siemens, and how these "Tools" are integrated in the organisational structure and strategy of Siemens. In this framework, he presented the Siemens Knowledge Management Roadmap, the role of innovation at Siemens, the threats and a picture of a holistic KM solution approach. (download presentation)
Flashlight Research - a case study about the EKMF Project by Dr. Patricia Wolf
Dr. Patricia Wolf presented a new, complementary research approach that is actually practices and tested in the EKMF Project with the objective of integrating practicioners and researchers. After the presentation of the actual work on the knowledgeboard website, the subject lead to aan animated discussion about the subject.(download presentation)
Workshop on KM tools used in practice by Christian Rangen
Christian Rangen, Partner at Knowledge Management Group DA and member of Sveiby Knowledge Associates (SKA Global) guided the participants through an exploratory workshop with a number of actual tools and processes, including IntroMat, KMAP (KMAP information), Collaborative Climate Survey and the Sveiby Toolkit (download article), currently being used globally in the KM-field. In this workshop, participants had to act as a consultants and to design a product that faces the most important issues of Knowledge Management in organisations. This workshop came to a wide range of complementary results in different areas of KM. (download results)
Feedback Session by Melis Sakiroglu and Roberta Cuel
To continuously improve the summerschool, this session was prepared to get feedback from the participants about where the most important potentials for improvements are and which could be the headlines for the Knowledge Management Summerschool in the next years.
Final Word by Prof. Kulwant Pawar

Farewell Cocktail in Front of the Miramar Palace
The KM Summerschool 2003 was brought to an adequate end throught the farewell cocktail in front of the Miramar palace with beautiful weather and a wonderful view on the bay of San Sebastian.
