The use of Knowledge Management in Project Management in Russia

Knowledge Management – to understand and use the value of the relations between people. In order to gain an stable profit, the relations and interactions between people within one organisation or a project must be always purposeful and intensely. Thus KM concepts should consist of 20% use of information technologies and of 80% use of human capital.

Project Management – to benefit from the organisational structure. One of the most important instruments therefore is intensive information exchange.

The most important task of the above mentioned 80% technologies and methodologies for facilitating the use of human capital is to educate the people to share information and not to hide them. The most important secret of a successful company is: How to motivate people for sharing knowledge with colleagues? This is the topic of psychologists should work on. In this article, we are concentrating on the remaining 20%: Information technologies (IT) in KM.

In project meetings, information need to be highly structured to support fast and excellent decisions. Thus, there was a Communication – Organizer (Communicator) developed. The aim behind the development of the organizer was to support structured use of the organisational information of communication system by managers. The organiser is a learning system, not only a automatic support tool for project management. From the authors point of view, it is a Knowledge Management system for Project Management.

The most important components and functions of the Communication – Organizer are:
· activities ( tasks, stories etc.)
· work status (projects, milestones etc.)
· working material ( texts, books and files)
· explanation section, commentary, help
· users ( manager, members, customers etc.)
· work groups (project groups, departments etc.)
