Workshop on Managing Environmental Incidents

30-Apr-03

The objective of ISSE 2003 is to provide experience from some recent disastrous events, mainly taken from the Spanish experience (Doņana, Prestige), but also from European and world cases (floodings, fires,…). What was done in such situations? What should have been done? Why some situations evolved to a disaster?

Both school and workshop are open to graduate students, researchers, and professionals of any interested sector. Participants should be involved with this topic and want to discuss or show analysis of revisited abnormal situations and make proposals for appropriate planning of future action, either at local or central level of planning. How can the experience of risk management of other dangerous activities, such as industry, be transferred to this domain? Which actions are required at international level? How to better integrate the communication and the information society in the support of decision-makers? How to avoid damage and casualties?
