KB Newswire #126 - CoPs: measurements, survey, online co-creation

24-Mar-06

KnowledgeBoard #126 - 23 March

http://www.knowledgeboard.com - Your Global KM Community

EDITOR'S NOTE

Miguel from the CoPs SIG has just released a very promising

document about practical CoP indicators in use at the 'Macuarium'

community. He is looking for some feedback and I suggest we apply

our collective intelligence to assist him; please have a read and

comment. Likewise, Jim Cashel has kindly kept his online

community metrics survey online solely for us to take part, so if

you have any interest or experience of working within online

communities, I recommend you participate.

Elsewhere on KB, Dan Renson has taken the Belgium SIG by storm

and published a very interesting analysis of the document chain,

while Carol Webb has kicked off the Complexity SIG with a mailing

list. John Griffin is looking for case studies for KM in the

public sector, and Edna Pasher is hosting a discussion on how we

can learn from our customers to improve our own products. A

pertinent subject for us all.

'Contactivity', our constructivist conference in three weeks'

time, is looking great. Indeed, it has already begun; we are

currently defining what we will be discussing at the event. There

are some spaces left. If you have managed to resist coming so

far, stop! Resistance is futile! It's going to be great. Sign up

and join us.

Best wishes,

SIG AND OTHER CONTENT HIGHLIGHTS

The Macuarium Set of CoP Measurements

This is a first listing and brief explanation of a very realistic

set of CoP indicators, most of them as used at the Macuarium CoP

system. Some more chapters are being created, and some others

extended, by other hands-on practitioners. Opinions, examples,

contradictions, comments and views are invited; the work is open

to more hands if you can add relevant, practical indicators to

the list.

Online community metrics survey

Jim Cashel from Forum One in The USA is running a survey about

online community metrics. If you are involved in this area (which

I know many of you are), I recommend taking a few minutes to fill

out the survey for him. The report should make very interesting

reading for participants.

The documental chain: from DOC to KM (English/French PowerPoint)

A large tour about raw data, documentation, rich data,

information, knowledge. Documentation: a very old concern. And

that isn't over! Some good reasons for the centralisation and

some others for the diffusion. But how to make it efficiently?

Public Sector KM initiatives

John is preparing a paper on KM in the local authority/government

sector and would welcome details of any KM applications or

projects currently underway in city, county or regional councils.

Future insights as to how KM is likely to develop over the coming

years would also be welcome. All contributions will be duly

acknowledged by him personally and in the paper.

Learning from our customers

One of the sources for innovation is learning from customers. We

are now assisting one of our client organisations to improve this

process. Could you share some good practices on this issue?

Complexity mailing list starts

Carol Webb has started the new Complexity group on our mailing

list which has generated some interesting conversations. You are

Contactivity: co-creation phase proceeds

There are a few places left for Contactivity and the co-creation

phase has begun. There is a great range of attendees including

practitioners, academics and consultants, which should provide a

fascinating base for conversations. If you want to come along, it

is not too late, but be swift. I can confirm that our walking

tour guide has written two books about local ghosts in Greenwich,

so that should be some light relief from KM. Or could it be

another way to discuss the narrative tradition?
