Contactivity update: two weeks to go

27-Mar-06

Contactivity is progressing well. Over 50 people have registered (our maximum is 60), which is very exciting. It's not just numbers though, the range of attendees is fantastic. The event has attracted KM practitioners, consultants, researchers and 'users'. This offers us the chance to reflect on our issues with peers from different backgrounds and perspectives. Given the dedicated workshop focus of the event, we can expect some great conversations!

As you know, there won't be any 'presentations' (apart from the pre-dinner ghost tour of Greenwich) and the event's subject matter remains deliberately undefined. The network and connectedness of attendees is the most important element; from this basic point, everything will surface. The attendees are defining the event themselves - the 'organisers' are simply creating the best possible environment for this to happen. In this way, we all 'own' the meeting, and get much more out of it than one we don't.

We have begun to use the wiki to share the issues we want to focus on at the physical event. Now we are in uncharted territory. This is the really exciting bit (and the source for the ongoing meeting research). Suggestions so far include 'KM with business partners and customers', 'How can KM speed up innovation to improve time to market?', 'can KM help with downsizing and rightsizing?', 'is it better measuring the ROI of KM or measuring the KM of ROI?' and more.

All the ideas are from the attendees, and over the next two weeks we will work together to reach an agreement of how Contactivity will be shaped in Greenwich. What we can see already is that it will be an action-packed two days of practice-sharing and practical issue resolution from a collection of great people with a lot to share and learn from eachother.

It is great to see the input from the attendees and such a sporting approach from the facilitators, who have all agreed to take the event in whatever direction the attendees request. There are still some seats, so if you fancy taking part in an experimental yet deeply serious knowledge-sharing event, have a look at the wiki:
