KB Newswire #127 - Community's case studies launch next week

06-Apr-06

KnowledgeBoard #127 - 6 April

http://www.knowledgeboard.com - Your Global KM Community

EDITOR'S NOTE

Next week we launch KnowledgeBoard's first community book, a

compilation of KM case studies in different industries from KB

members around the world, edited by the content stewards. We will

be work-shopping the case studies at Contactivity on Monday and

then releasing the individual chapters in the KB library. The

introductions are now available in the KnowledgeBank.

We are proud to host Debra Amidon and her co-authors for our next

Book of the Month event on April 26, and Chris Kimble and Paul

Hildreth are looking for authors for their new book on

Communities of Practice for educators. The CEE editors have

written a fascinating review of KM in Slovakia and Jeevan Kamble

has a specific question for us all about enhancing documented

knowledge in organisations.

The members library has some great new papers and Contactivity is

now full to overflowing with a great bunch of people. We will be

reporting on it afterwards and you are welcome to keep an eye on

the wiki as we progress.

Best wishes,

Ed Mitchell

KM in Slovakia: actual review

The approach to knowledge management in Slovakia is conditioned

by two factors. One is the historic fact that 15 years ago,

Slovakia re-emerged after more than 1000 years of subsistence

from someone else's shadow, and started creating its own image

from scratch. The other is the abrupt change in the socio-

political paradigm. This has resulted in restructuring of

Slovakia's industrial complex: one part of it was privatized,

mostly into foreign hands, the other part is idling.

MEMBER LIBRARY PAPERS

Delivering business benefits through K-Transfer Partnerships

This paper offers four small case studies that illustrate how

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are helping small

companies to adapt to changing environments and meet changing

customer needs. The paper outlines the principal characteristics

of KTPs and explores some of the key issues in the development of

improved customer service.

Innovation systems, clustering and sustainability: regionality

The concept of innovation systems carries the idea that knowledge

is generated not only by individuals and organisations, but also

by their complex pattern of interaction. As the innovation

systems perspective is primarily concerned with the flow of

knowledge and its impact on economic growth, it makes sense to

approach the presence of collective knowledge in a region with a

tendency to stimulate spatial clustering of innovation.

The role of universities in the development of innovation systems

The main aim of this paper is to analyse the transformation of

Russian technical universities into innovation actors and their

role in the development of innovation systems in the period of

Knowledge-Based Economy (KBE) formation.
