KB Newswire #129 - love, learning and Wi-max

KnowledgeBoard #129 - 4 May 2006
http://www.knowledgeboard.com - Your Global KM Community
EDITOR'S NOTE
An interesting trio of content highlights this week: KB's own learning modules bringing some KM education for us all, a moving article about love (and social software in organisations), and a practical application of Wi-max technology to explore organisational network boundaries in e-health.

Two excellent and free online events are coming up soon: on May 24, Steve Barth is joining the events team to de-construct KM in a vigorous and refreshing session, and on June 14, editors and authors of the Entovation network's new book will be our guests to explore 'Knowledge Economics'.

I look forward to announcing the new KnowledgeBoard editor in the next newswire; I understand that the final interviews are happening this week in Bristol, UK.

Best wishes,

Ed Mitchell

SIG AND OTHER CONTENT HIGHLIGHTS

Learning Module: Key Principles of Communication

Communication can be seen as one of the foundations of Knowledge Management. Based on this argument a set of learning modules has been developed by Marinita Schumacher. It is published under the general topic 'Communication and Management' and is divided into 3 sub-modules: 'Key Principals of Communication', 'Intercultural Communication' and 'Leadership and Communication'.

All you need is love

Where did all this come from, where did the idea that the most powerfully motivating force in the world had nothing to do with business? We spend most of our adult lives in the workplace and at work we bring about the most important and long lasting changes to our society and our planet, and yet we are not encouraged to talk in terms of love.

Wi-max: a new technology for KM

Many fields, ranging from telecommunications, to gaming and e- health, can benefit of the Wi-Max technology in the near future. In the following, we present a practical application of the Wi- Max technology to the e-health system whose aim is to trace the boundaries of an organisational network model for the healthcare facilities, based on a WMAN (Wireless Metropolitan Area Network).

KB Special Event, May: Meet Steve Barth

15:00 CET (14:00 GMT), 24 May, in the KnowledgeBoard workshop
Join us as we de-construct Knowledge Management with the widely known and respected Steve Barth: '...KM is frequently defined as getting the right information to the right person at the right time so he or she can make the right decision. The assumption is that we make better decisions if we have access to knowledge in the forms of information and expertise, but that there is a lot of irrelevant information getting in the way. More often than not, we are drowning in both information and knowledge, but starved for meaning and actionable belief...' http://www.knowledgeboard.com/discuss/0/0/0/111

15:00 CET (14:00 GMT), 14 June, in the KnowledgeBoard workshop
Join us in conversation with the editors and authors of the Entovation network's book: '...The principles of knowledge economics ought to be endorsed as a revolutionary change - an opportunity to provide a solid foundation, rationale and vision to substitute something more sustainable than the old regime of traditional economics...' http://www.knowledgeboard.com/cgi-bin/discuss.cgi?topic_id=26
