Ed Mitchell's wave goodbye to KnowledgeBoard

18-May-06

Dear all,

The last two years as KB editor have been astounding and you are the reason why. Thank you all for being so good to me; I hope that I have responded in kind and made the most of the situation.

As ever, you are in the capable hands of the KB team: Rene (project manager), Sami, Liza (content stewards), Mounib, Corinna (community stewardship), Ben (website technology and business planning), Edna, Ron, Michal (events) and Silverio (specialised editing). Going forward from June, Sift's experienced community management and customer service team (Jenny, Kate and Matt) will be handling your day-day needs. The 'editor@knowledgeboard.com' email address will be read and answered with no delay.

I have learnt huge amounts about knowledge, management, online communities, offline communities, people, research, mediation, diplomacy, frustration, epiphany, joy, culture, technology, techniques, intelligence, networks, learning, discovery and much more - because of you all. Thank you massively; learning is the best thing ever.

The most important thing I have learnt is that, given the means, we are better at doing things together than in isolation - the best solutions to the problems KB has faced in the last two years were found between us - thank you for your support, ideas, innovative capacity and generosity - it is your brains and emotions that has driven KB.

Through KB I have met friends for life, colleagues for work, mentors for learning, and even people in my own town who make me question the meaning of the universe (which is a good thing if you were wondering). After some outdoors work in the UK in June, I will be working freelance with CILIP to assist with its online communities, writing a paper or two, collaborating on the KB book about physical and virtual tools for knowledge sharing, and possibly building a virtual widget with some trusted partners. Knowledge Management will always be an informing factor in my professional life from now on. Again - thank you for this gift.

I am sad to wave goodbye to the KnowledgeBoard community but all things go in cycles. I promise to take the learning onward and outward and hope to see many of you in the future.

Driving Collaboration

Ed, its been an honur working with you on KnowledgeBoard over the last couple of years. You have been a driving force for the interactivity and the dynamism that drives many of us back to KnowlegeBoard each day. It would be impossible to list just even an iota of what you have done or made us do... With sincere wishes for transforming whatever you do in the same way as you transformed KnowledgeBoard... I am sure we will be in touch and doing great things together.

You *were* the KnowledgeBoard!

Ed - you made it real and alive and gave breath to an inanimate thing. Your successor (whoever he/she is) can only hope to live up to the vibrance of the trail you have blazed - you are a hard act to follow and will be sorely missed here for sure. Long may your enthusiasm and verve continue and I wish you all good things for what I am sure will be a very dynamic and energetic future.
All good vibes to you, Carol.
