KB newswire 130 - new CoPs thinking, Complexity Science SIG, community survey

18-May-06

KnowledgeBoard #130 - 18 May

http://www.knowledgeboard.com - Your Global KM Community

EDITOR'S NOTE

Miguel from the CoPs SIG has written a very interesting analysis

of recent changes which alter our understanding of Communities of

Practice; well worth a read. The Complexity Science and

Organisations SIG will be launched in mid June; Carol Webb is at

the helm of this emergent entity and is bound to bring barrels of

excitement and debate our way, so prepare yourselves! Likewise,

Dedrick Smith has jumped onboard the KM for Project Management

SIG so we should see action there in the coming months as well.

Please fill out our members' feedback survey - it will only take

a few moments and goes to making the site a better place. Once

you have done that, check out the new papers in the KB library –

the content stewards have done us proud again and found some

fantastic research.

This is my last newswire, so it's farewell time. Farewells should

always be short and sweet, so... Farewell. Au revoir. Hasta

pronto. Ciao. Auf wiedersehen. Adeus. Tot ziens. Seeya. It's been

fantastic and you have all been great. Thank you.

SIG AND OTHER CONTENT HIGHLIGHTS

Revisiting CoPs: from fishermen guilds to the global village

If we want a model that truly reflects modern CoP behaviour, we

need to take into account a number of changes that have affected

CoPs - the same ones that have propelled them to their current

number and role. Those changes affect the roles of familiar parts

of the model, and highlight the emergence of new elements like

the "conversational space" and privately-owned resources

Launching the new Complexity Science and Organisations SIG

A core objective of the SIG is to stimulate an open and flexible

environment in which to do stuff on the theme of complexity

science where maximum participation and co-creation is the name

of the game. As SIG Editor, Carol will be looking to stage a few

things and set up a bit of controversial intellectual debate on

the KB and hopefully tease out interesting themes from there with

the people interacting. The aim of this is to develop new streams

of ideas on which to build together.

Ed Mitchell's wave goodbye to KnowledgeBoard

The last two years as KB editor have been astounding and you are

the reason why. Thank you all for being so good to me; I hope

that I have responded in kind and made the most of the situation.

Take part in the KB feedback survey

As from today and through the next couple of weeks, KB is running

a Feedback survey in which we will learn from you, our customers,

what you think about the KnowledgeBoard activities, community and

site. The survey is very short; only 12 questions - and takes

only a few minutes to fill out
