New SIG editors needed

As SIGs have their own life cycle, it is a ususal phenomenon that they are born, run during a period of time and then probably die. This is for example due to current business or research developments which address certain areas of knowledge management. SIGs and forums are then regularly used to keep each other updated about current developments, to get in contact with fellow researchers and practioners and to exchange knowledge and experience. After a while when discussions around these topics get calmer also the corresponding SIG gets much more inactive and could finally die. In order to respond to the demands of the community we offer a wide range of areas and fields of interest on KnowledgeBoard and give people the possibility to elaborate new schools of thought. This states the need for the ongoing development of the SIGs and Zones.

But also the people behind, especially the SIG editors, play an important role in the SIG life cycle. As people develop through the time it is also a natural phenomenon that they change their interests and/or set new priorities. This means that they might have been engaged in a certain SIG for a while but then “leave” it to join new groups. Some of the SIGs on KnowledgeBoard have become quite inactive during the last time which seems to be due to the above described circumstances. As the KB project consortium decided not to archieve existing SIGs we agreed on finding new editors for some of them. We need one or better two motivated persons that would like to take the lead and become a SIG editor. You would be responsible to moderate discussions, post interesting articles and keep the community updated about current developments in the field.

We need editors for the following SIGs:

IMPLEMENTATION: discussion about KM implementation approaches and best practice

PROCESSES: identify and discuss future requirements and necessary developments in business process orientated KM

SPACE: about the effective use of Space (physical and virtual) to facilitate collaborative working

TRUST: explore the key factor of Trust in KM

So, if you are interested in reactivating one of the following SIGs please get in contact with Mounib Mekhilef or Corinna Flöck.

Enter business through processes

To those who believe in knowledge usefulness for business:

Indeed, I agree with Corinna to the extent that business is made of processes and that knowledge (which knowledge? That is the question) enhances processes as well processes call for knowledge.

Consequently, processes are no longer to be considered outside the scope of business... and vice-versa.

Processes SIG

Dear Guy,
thanks for your remark. Yes, the Processes SIG could include a lot of Business topics and usually those topics attract a lot of interest amongst the community. Especially when they include case studies.
I would suggest to keep it simple and stick to the title "Processes SIG" but concentrate more on the business level. This would still leave the door open for other approaches.

Kind regards
Corinna Flöck

Why not a business SIG?

Dear friends,

I am interested in the Processes SIG but to answer our new editor's concerns and the ones uttered by those who commented his item methinks it would be better calling it KM for Business SIG (which has nothing to do with the current SIG entitled Business of KM).

Owing to my industrial background I believe I have the feeling for it though I confess that I might have yielded to the "academic" syndrome.

We have to discuss such a project together.

All the best

Guy
