Information Builders launches business intelligence portal for 'non-technical' users

20-Sep-11

Information Builders has launched a business intelligence portal as part of the new round of enhancements to its BI platform.

As part of WebFOCUS 8, the portal will provide users with a single point of entry to all WebFOCUS features, a common user interface, and the ability to build complete, modern websites with just a few clicks - requiring no specialist web-design knowledge.

The portal is ideal for use by non-technical users thanks to the use of drag-and–drop controls that today’s workers are familiar with from popular online portals, Information Builders says, to select information to present on their personalised business intelligence portal.

Content can be repositioned and individually customised to display multiple pieces in a single space using tabbed or accordion panels. The interface also allows users to add their own pages in the same manner they would add a new tab in a web browser.

Once a new page is created, users can then drag and drop the respective reports of interest onto the page. The new BI Portal also contains a live preview feature, giving users the ability to review every change, and its resulting impact on other aspects of the site, prior to committing to the revision.

Gerald Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders, said the intuitive interface common across the Information Builders’ product line would eliminate the need for additional end user training to build fully functional websites, regardless of their level of technical expertise.

“While we’ll continue to offer support for existing WebFOCUS BI Dashboards, we see our new BI Portal as the next generation of business intelligence, and we’re excited to offer these advanced capabilities to our customers,” Cohen added.
