Goal of the “Motivating Knowledge Workers” theme has been to investigate how to identify, manage and then exploit these soft factors, in order to add to technology and rewarding policies a new and powerful lever. Read the summarized results in the Synthesis Report.
During the four weeks of November 2002, numerous activities have been held in order to reach the defined objectives. Three keynote presentations, four polls and a workshop have been organised in order to foster the exchanges within the participants and to answer the questions about “How to Motivate Knowledge Workers”.

Before the whole thing started off Theme2 team has prepared a press release and a brochure for marketing purposes.

Weekly Digests
After each week, as small digest has been created that summarised quickly the happenings and results of the past week.

Keynote Presentations
Three keynote presentations have been held during the Theme 2 runtime. Using the Genesys online conferencing technology, participants was able to access the presentation by phone (audio) and via the Internet (slides and chat).

Polls
Every week of the activities around Theme 2 a new poll was presented to the members of the community in order to get their opinion about important questions affecting Theme 2. The questions that should be answered with the help of the polls are described in the following sections. An average of 60-80 people weekly voted in the poll.

Workshops
At the Europe KM 2002, London, there was an offline workshop entitled “Motivating the knowledge workers: technology, rewarding and beyond”.
The workshop goal was to investigate new ideas and tools to motivate knowledge workers. During the four hour workshop, almost 100 people followed the eight presentations planned, and more than an hour of debate among speakers and attendees closed the session.
